Launched in 2016, we are in the business of educating WOC about melanoma and sun protection by manufacturing a natural sunscreen that has eliminated all white residue and is infused with organic ingredients. Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic, highly creative, forward-thinking Interim Director of Social Media to lead our digital strategy and guide a high-performing social media team. This interim role is ideal for a strategic leader who can provide executive-level oversight while supporting the voice and growth of a culturally rich, category-defining brand.

This role requires close collaboration with the Creator & Founder/CEO and key departments to ensure digital content reflects brand priorities, cultural resonance, and evolving consumer behavior.

Position Reports To: Creator & Founder/ CEO

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and lead the organic social media strategy for BGS across Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn, ensuring alignment with brand values and business objectives.
• Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to the Social Media team, including the Sr. Social Media Manager and content collaborators.
• Oversee performance tracking and reporting, delivering weekly KPI insights and driving agile adjustments to content and platform strategies.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Creative, and E-Commerce teams to support both community engagement and business conversion goals.
• Identify and execute high-impact opportunities, including trend-driven content, real-time engagement, and platform innovations.
• Steer influencer partnerships, UGC integration, and social-first campaign activations in coordination with brand and retail initiatives.
• Ensure BGS maintains a distinct, culturally relevant voice, tailored to each platform's audience and tone.

Qualifications:

• Proven leadership skills, with experience managing teams and guiding creative development.
• Deep understanding of social media analytics, platform algorithms, and the key drivers of engagement.
• Exceptional communication skills and strong cultural awareness, particularly within Black and Brown communities.
• Los Angeles-based, in-person collaboration and content creation.
• Strong alignment with Black Girl Sunscreen's mission, with the ability to authentically represent and advocate for the brand across all platforms.

Other Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in social media or digital marketing, preferably within beauty, skincare, or lifestyle CPG sectors
• Track record of success leading consumer-facing social strategies that drive growth across multiple platforms
• Strong management skills with the ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team.
