The role of the Intake Specialist is to complete intake assessments for individuals of all ages who are seeking outpatient treatment at our Yakima clinic. Intake Specialists interview individuals to determine clinical necessity for mental health treatment and establish new clients on an appropriate treatment team based on level of care needed, diagnosis, and funding source. As part of the Outpatient team, the Intake Specialist may also provide mental health treatment and therapy to adult clients, if needed. The ability to quickly build trust & rapport with clients is essential in this role. Familiarity with and the ability to recognize the symptoms & presentation of a wide variety of mental illnesses are also necessary. Intake Specialist duties may include:
- completing intake evaluations for prospective clients, including determination of initial diagnosis and medical necessity for admission to services
- assigning new clients to appropriate treatment teams and coordinating first appointment scheduling
- communicating with referral sources and other treatment providers to obtain relevant clinical information
- referring clients to alternative and/or additional services when necessary (crisis services, primary care provider, community resources, substance use evaluation, etc.)
- providing individual & family therapy and leading behavioral health groups
- assessing clients for safety and risk to self or others, and taking appropriate crisis intervention steps when indicated
- completing extensive clinical documentation in client-centered manner
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field
- Must be eligible for registration as Agency Affiliated Counselor and designation as Mental Health Professional
