Job title: Instrument and Control Technician

Location: Olive Township, Michigan

Job type: Contract (estimated 12 months, possible extension, possible temp to perm)

Salary: $25 - $50 per hour

Work hours: 8am to 5pm

Education: Associate's degree required in a scientific or technical field (Bachelor's degree preferred)

Overview: Large utility is seeking an Instrument and Control Technician who will focus on laboratory analysis, equipment maintenance, and system troubleshooting. The role prefers candidates with experience in power or chemical plant operations, environmental regulations, and specific analytical and mechanical systems. This is a contract position with potential for extension and/or temp-to-perm conversion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory and wet laboratory analysis, including fuel, oil, and daily water quality monitoring.
  • Manage wastewater treatment and perform environmental sampling, testing, and reporting.
  • Ensure the performance and reliability of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments and external vendors.
  • Collect, calculate, and review data for internal and external reports.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and repair lab and inline instrumentation and equipment.
  • Monitor processes and system status, and take action to address issues.
  • Submit electronic work requests for equipment deficiencies.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment for plant, electric, and gas systems.
  • Consult with supervisors, operators, and engineers to discuss needs and provide technical expertise.

Skills and qualifications

  • Familiarity with the thermodynamic steam cycle, power plant components, and environmental regulations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of analytical lab equipment, mechanical equipment, and water production systems is beneficial.
  • Experience with NPDES, Storm Water, and RCRA waste management, and relevant certifications, are a plus.

Educatin And Experience

  • A minimum of an associate's degree in a scientific or technical field is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a scientific field is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in a power or chemical processing plant, or as a power plant operator, is preferred.
