Job Description: The Engineering Department at Westchester Community College has a tenure-track opening for an Instructor of Engineering in Electrical Technology. The department is seeking a professional with a combination of both academic and industrial experience. The candidate should be comfortable in both the classroom and laboratory settings. Courses offered in Electrical Technology in our department include but are not limited to; Circuits, Digital Logic, Machinery, Microprocessors, System Analysis, and Energy Conversion. Responsibilities include the following:
  • Teach 15 hours a week.
  • Hold a minimum of 5 office hours per week.
  • Assist in the development and upgrade of curricula.
  • Laboratory facility development and maintenance.
  • Student advisement.
  • Serve on department and college-wide committees.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Active involvement in local professional organizations.
Requirements: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline and one year of college level teaching or practical experience is required. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach courses at all levels. They must be able to work in a standard classroom as well as in the department's electrical labs. Familiarity with the integration of technology into the curriculum is essential. The successful candidate will effectively teach courses in Electrical Circuit Theory (AC, DC and Transients), Electronic Device Operation and Applications, Instruments and Controls, Digital Logic and FPGA Programming, Microcontroller Operation and Programming, Industrial Machinery and PLC Programming. The incumbent will teach courses in Renewable Energy including Solar, Wind, Thermal, Hydro and Energy Storage that prepare for recognized industry certifications. The successful candidate will integrate appropriate laboratory experiences in each class to reinforce learning and practical applications, including hardware projects and software simulations. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A background and familiarity with Clean energy practices, equipment, generation and storage is highly preferred. A candidate with 2-3 years of teaching experience as well as industrial experience is preferred. Familiarity with industrial training and certification needs is also preferred.Additional Information: POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2024 SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary for this position is $66,144. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $77,639.
