Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Professional Certification: Current Ohio Peace Officer Instructor Certification.
  • Law Enforcement Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years of full-time experience in law enforcement, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  • Legal Eligibility: No convictions for a felony, crime of moral turpitude, or any other offense that disqualifies one from serving as a peace officer under Ohio law.
Instructional Qualifications:
  • Ability to teach in one or more of the following subject areas: Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Technology, Public Administration, or Emergency Management.
  • Willingness and ability to teach in a community college setting, including students with diverse backgrounds, preparedness levels, and learning styles.
  • Instructional Flexibility: Willingness to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online, hybrid, and evening/weekend courses. Experience with online learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, D2L) is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively
  • Effective organizational and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching at the community college or university level.
  • Background in curriculum development and program assessment.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering online and hybrid courses using platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, or D2L.
  • Familiarity with state or national criminal justice training standards (e.g., OPOTA , POST ).
  • Demonstrated use of experiential learning strategies (e.g., simulations, scenario-based training, case studies).
  • Ongoing engagement in professional development, scholarly activity, or active involvement in relevant professional organizations (e.g., IACLEA , IADLEST ).
  • Previous experience with grant writing, program coordination, or community outreach in the field of criminal justice or public safety.
Summary of Duties:

Instruction and Student Learning Deliver high-quality instruction that aligns with course objectives and institutional standards. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, assignments, and assessments to support student learning. Utilize diverse instructional strategies, including technology-enhanced learning, to accommodate various learning styles. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to promote academic growth. Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and assessments in accordance with college policies. Student Engagement & Advisement Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation. Serve as an academic resource for students, offering guidance on coursework, study strategies, and academic progress. Encourage student engagement through active discussions, collaborative projects, and real-world applications of course material. Be available for student inquiries and provide office hours or virtual support as needed. Culture of Respect Promote an inclusive classroom environment that values diversity, equity, and mutual respect. Model professional behavior and ethical conduct in interactions with students, colleagues, and staff. Uphold academic integrity and encourage a culture of honesty and accountability. Address student concerns with empathy and professionalism while adhering to institutional policies. Support and contribute to a positive, respectful college community that enhances the overall student experience.
