Apply now for>> IT Specialist - Networking (City Government) Job Summary Under the direction of the Technology Systems Manager, the Information Technology (IT) Specialist performs the duties of a Network Administrator. The IT Specialist will administer and oversee the implementation, organization, and troubleshooting of the network, hardware, software, and underlying communications protocols, and provide workstation support for City technology. Upcoming initiatives:
  • Evaluating, planning, and executing a Network refresh.(vendors: Cisco, Aruba)
  • Evaluating phone service providers (Shoretel), and implementing a back-up provider in short-term.
  • Evaluating, planning, and migrating On-premise servers to Cloud.(VMware, Absolute Software)

  • Monitors the assigned network, ensuring optimal function and minimal downtime.
  • Monitors and analyzes network load including traffic and utilization trends.
  • Ensures networks are protected from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users, and damage to data by developing and monitoring security procedures or collaborating with staff.
  • Drafts checklists, processes, support trees, and knowledge bases to support City staff.
  • Responsible for data backup, recovery, and retention consistent with public employer requirements.
  • Communicates networking issues to other employees of the City, including elected officials, boards, and commissions.
  • Fixes software and hardware issues for users as needed.
  • Deploys new hardware and software for the network and individual users.
  • Keeps hardware and software up to date and maintains accurate asset logs to track required updates and replacements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience
