We're seeking a versatile IT Project Manager to oversee multiple business-critical initiatives for a leading global organization in the consumer sector. This role will support both exploratory (“discovery”) efforts and full implementation projects, including automation, warehousing, trade finance, and regulatory systems. This is a hands-on position for a true PM—someone who can independently drive projects from planning through completion, manage limited internal resources, and coordinate external vendors. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and skilled in navigating complex environments with tight deadlines and competing priorities. This is a 6–12-month consulting opportunity with compensation of up to $90/hr., based on experience. This role will require 3 days per week at the company headquarters in the Trenton, NJ area.
Responsibilities
- Lead project planning and startup. Define scope, build detailed timelines, clarify resource needs, and align stakeholders on project objectives.
- Manage day-to-day execution. Track progress, address issues and risks early, adapt to scope or schedule changes, and keep all moving parts in sync.
- Handle multiple projects concurrently. Balance 2 implementation projects and 1 discovery effort at a time, each at different stages.
- Work within a lean team structure. Creatively secure and manage internal resources, often with limited availability or shifting priorities.
- Oversee vendor involvement. Manage external partners, validate proposed timelines, integrate them with internal teams, and ensure deliverables meet expectations.
- Own project communications. Deliver concise updates to business leads and steering committees, prepare polished presentations, and facilitate decision-making at key milestones.
- Maintain budget and compliance. Monitor capital and operational costs, flag variances early, and ensure adherence to regulatory/validation requirements.
- Complete post-project wrap-up. Capture lessons learned, finalize documentation, and assess project performance against original objectives.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of IT project management experience across medium to large-scale initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Project, project lifecycle methodologies (SDLC), and modern PM tools.
- Experience managing multiple, concurrent projects with minimal oversight.
- Proven vendor management skills, especially in coordinating delivery timelines and holding partners accountable.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills—comfortable presenting to executives and steering committees.
- Experience in regulated environments (GxP, FDA, SOX) is preferred.
- Background in the Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) industry is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience; PMP certification preferred.
