This position primarily works Tuesday-Saturday.GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES The purpose of this position is to help foster partnerships by representing the library at community events, meetings, and forums; promote awareness of library resources and services to the public; complete related special projects; and coordinate with staff volunteers for outreach activities. The person in this position may assist with staff coverage in providing direct public services to library users. The person in this position assists with staff coverage at different branch locations and may be the designated Person in Charge. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate outreach events both independently and in partnership with community stakeholders. Represent the library in the community by participating in various events, promoting library services, hosting outreach programs, and volunteer opportunities. Help foster and maintain partnerships. Schedule and coordinate with staff to attend events. Maintain accurate outreach event calendar, records, and statistics. Manage program budget. Direct Report: Supervise one or more full-time equivalent employees. Initiate and /or recommend personnel actions, including hiring, promoting and disciplining; Develop performance standards, JDQs and work procedures for staff; Communicate continuously with employees; provide timely feedback, praise and correction with professionalism. Provide ongoing training and ensure County/Library policies and procedures are followed; Assist staff in resolving any work problems to ensure excellent public service and promote positive public relations; Ensure staff feel empowered to make decisions related to their areas of responsibility; Ensure staff maintain current training and participates in other learning opportunities. Direct Public Service: Greet and offer professional expertise to library users as they enter the service area and as they use library resources. Assist patrons with library resources and services, including the online catalog, hold requests, account features, self-checkout, curbside services, and locating materials or suitable alternatives. Provide reference and informational support in person, by phone, and electronically; refer complex inquiries to professional staff as needed. Oversee public technology use, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and offer individual or group instruction on print and electronic resources. Perform daily circulation and customer service duties, including greeting patrons, managing checkouts, resolving account issues, and maintaining adherence to library procedures. Support system-wide operations, including staff coverage at other locations, handling financial transactions and deposits, and managing complex circulation tasks with accuracy and professionalism. Person in Charge: Serve as Person in Charge at the primary location and other system locations as assigned; back up other supervisors as needed; open and secure the building, and manage daily departmental or branch operations including staff scheduling and attending meetings. Resolve patron problems and complaints; model a positive attitude when addressing issues involving both patrons and staff. Handle emergencies and security incidents, including fire alarms, medical situations, disruptive behavior, theft, and violations of the Library Code of Conduct; coordinate with law enforcement when necessary. Address building and technical issues by contacting Facilities, OIT, or ILS support as appropriate; collaborate with library administration to resolve operational challenges. Professional development: Maintain current awareness of and familiarity with new software programs, electronic resources, computer equipment, and downloadable media. Learns about or trains on at least two new applications, devices, programs, or services per year. OTHER IMPORTANT OR MARGINAL DUTIES Completes special projects as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is performed mainly indoors, at a desk. Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time. Requires regular walking for periods of time. Must be able to lift/push/pull in excess of 20 lbs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Masters degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an ALA-accredited graduate program. Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Class E State of Florida Driver's License with a favorable driving record. Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends.
