Position Summary
The Infection Preventionist will play a critical role in safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors by leading efforts to prevent and control the spread of infections and communicable diseases within the hospital setting. This position involves conducting surveillance, investigation, analysis, interpretation, reporting, and implementation of prevention strategies. The Infection Preventionist will collaborate with various departments to promote a culture of safety, enhance patient outcomes, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as established infection control standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct ongoing surveillance and analysis of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and communicable diseases.
- Investigate potential outbreaks and implement control measures in accordance with established protocols.
- Collect, interpret, and report infection control data to relevant agencies, including the Department of Health.
- Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical teams to implement infection prevention strategies.
- Provide staff education and training on infection prevention practices and policies.
- Review and update infection prevention policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Utilize EPIC Bugsy to track and manage infection prevention activities.
- Act as a subject matter expert for infection prevention and control within the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Certification: Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC).
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing, or related discipline.
- Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of satisfactory clinical experience or experience in infection prevention and control, healthcare epidemiology, or a related field in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- EPIC Bugsy experience in a hospital setting is required.
- Department of Health reporting experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing, or related discipline.
- Experience:
- Four (4) years of satisfactory clinical experience or experience in infection prevention and control, healthcare epidemiology, or a related field in a hospital or healthcare setting with a Master's degree.
- Five (5) years of satisfactory experience in infection prevention and control, healthcare epidemiology, or a related field in a hospital or healthcare setting with a Bachelor's degree.
