On Call Counsel -

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Supervising Attorneys with extensive immigration experience to staff application centers for asylum seekers. The role of the Supervising Attorney is to answer questions and provide support and training to application assistants and asylum seekers as they fill out applications. There will be multiple Supervising Attorneys on-site at the center each day. The Supervising Attorney will foster and encourage a positive, productive environment and will bring a can-do attitude to the wide variety of questions that arise.

Schedule:

  • Flexible Schedule (Monday - Saturday)
  • 1-5 days/week
  • 8 hours/day - 9-5

Responsibilities:

  • Train and support application assistants as they support asylum seekers in submitting asylum applications.
  • Advise application assistants and asylum seekers regarding the requirements for submitting an asylum claim.*
  • Ensure application assistants comply with NYC program guidance and reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Admitted to practice in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Clear of any attorney disciplinary charges sustained in the past 10 years in any jurisdiction in which they were licensed.
  • At least 2 years of full-time experience practicing immigration law, including asylum and other humanitarian immigration benefits.
  • Willingness to work in person and on site at the NYC Navigation Center for the duration of the project, which is anticipated to be through August 4. (Potential to extend)
  • Proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates must have an EOIR number

*The Help Centers will support applicants as they complete asylum applications pro se and will not be offering full representation.
