The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Florida is an affiliate of the nationalACLU, a national public interest organization devoted to the defense of the Bill of Rights.For over 100 years, the ACLU has served as the nation's primary protector of theliberties that define our democracy. The organization implements its vital civil libertiesmission in all 50 states in large part through affiliate entities such as the ACLU ofFlorida. Operating out of six offices—Miami (main), Tampa, Orlando, Pensacola,Tallahassee, and Jacksonville—the Florida affiliate has a budget of over $8 million and55 staff members, placing it among the larger ACLU affiliates in the nation.
Position:
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida (ACLU-FL) seeks an ImmigrantRights Organizer. The position will be based in the ACLU FL Miami Office and reportsto the Field Director.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, within the range of $45,000-$60,000. The ACLU of Florida provides excellent benefits, including health and dentalinsurance with generous vacation, holiday and sick leave policies, as well as a DefinedContribution 401K Retirement Plan. Base vacation leave is five weeks per year.
Responsibilities:
- Organize around multidisciplinary objectives to advance civil liberties utilizing a combination of advocacy and organizing strategies
- Engage, Recruit, Develop & Empower community leaders and volunteers in support of the Floridians for Immigrant Justice Campaign
- Build a large-scale capacity program of volunteers
- Develop strategy and field organizing activities for the campaign
- Elevate the stories and experiences of impacted communities and individuals, ensuring that the interests and vision of impacted immigrants and the broader community are reflected in campaigns
- Organize, lead, and participate in community education events, rallies, and meetings
- Assist in developing advocacy materials including fact sheets, toolkits, action alerts, blog posts, and social media content in collaboration with the Communication Strategist & Policy Strategist
- Identify needed training and presentations and build out materials for volunteers
- Provide Know Your Rights training for impacted communities and individuals,
- employers, educators, medical providers, educators, etc.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion within the workplace; using personal approach that values all individuals and respects differences in regards to race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance
- Commitment to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving obstacles and/or conflicts
- Meet quantitative goals for event building, volunteer contact and recruitment
Qualifications:
- History of living in or working with immigrant communities, preferably in Florida
- Fluency in a language other than English (Spanish, Hatian Creole, etc.strongly preferred)
- Experience in political organizing and base building through a snowflake growth model
- A history of working collaboratively and successfully with people and organizations from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and broad range of ideological positions and religious views
- Experience with passing local municipality ordinances
- Commitment to meeting a high bar and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles
- Ability to work on fast-paced campaigns with many moving pieces and ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- Self-starting and willing to learn
- Experience managing multiple projects and the ability to oversee volunteers and leaders
- Ability to travel across the state, as necessary, and participate in evening and weekend actions, meetings, events, etc.
- Commitment to the mission and goals of the ACLU, including a demonstrated commitment to racial justice and civil rights issues
