Position Type: Other Professional Staff/Human Resources Generalist Date Posted: 8/11/2025 Location: APSB Human Resources Closing Date: 08/25/2025 Ascension Parish School Board Job DescriptionI.JOB TITLE: Human Resources Generalist - Benefits JOB TYPE: 147 POSITION REPORTS TO: Human Resources Specialist - Benefits PAY GRADE: ADM-8 FLSA STATUS: Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD 260 days II. SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE Provides human resources support to all employees in the area of employee benefits from employment through termination and retirement. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who can relate to individuals at all levels within the organization. The generalist must be sensitive to the School Board's needs, employee goodwill and the business needs. III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - Bachelor's Degree in human resources, business or a related field with specialty in human resources.2. EXPERIENCE - 1-2 years experience in human resources operations or management, including experience with human resources/payroll software applications, or related field. 3. SKILLS - Comprehensive knowledge of HR practices and employment laws, procedures, HRIS; thorough knowledge of departmental functions, organization and policies; comprehensive knowledge of business English and spelling; ability to establish harmonious working relationships with others; ability to work under pressure; ability to organize and perform work independently; ability to deal effectively with other employees and the general public. 4. OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and human resources software. IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Manages FMLA requests and notifications regarding extending leaves of absences. 2. Responds to all inquiries but not limited to employee relations concerns, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, ADA policies. 3. Monitors, analyzes and recommends solutions to complex problems regarding leave/retirement options. 4. Assumes a major role in the administration of human resources benefits. 5. Performs computer functions on PC applications for development of meaningful spreadsheets, data analysis culminating in data driven recommendations. 6. Manages unemployment claims. 7. Assists in training sessions as required. 8. Remains current on employment law. Understands employee benefits and is able to answer questions from employees regarding benefit matters. Has a thorough understanding of Ascension Parish School Board personnel policies. 9. Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that employee records confidentiality is assured. 10. Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives. 11. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system. 12. Performs other related duties as required.
