Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support our growing property management team, with a particular focus on employee relations, investigations, compliance, and collaborating with legal counsel. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a respectful, legally compliant, and productive work environment across our multifamily housing communities.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR professional who understands the fast-paced, service-driven nature of property management and is comfortable managing sensitive personnel issues, claims, and investigations with professionalism and care.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee Relations & Investigations

  • Act as a trusted advisor to regional and on-site property management teams on employee relations issues.
  • Conduct thorough, impartial investigations into employee complaints, policy violations, harassment, discrimination, and other workplace concerns.
  • Document findings and outcomes while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with company policies and employment law.
  • Coach and counsel managers on performance issues, corrective action plans, and employee engagement strategies.
  • Partner with managers and leadership to address employee concerns, foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture aligned with company values, and promote HR best practices.

Compliance & Legal Collaboration

  • Partner with legal counsel on employment-related matters, including investigations, dispute resolution, disciplinary actions, and risk mitigation.
  • Prepare documentation for legal proceedings, unemployment claims, and government agency inquiries (EEOC, DFEH, DOL, etc.).
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and stay current on regulatory changes that impact property management operations.
  • Assist with the implementation and communication of HR policies and procedures across multiple property sites.

Claims & Risk Management

  • Manage employee claims related to workplace incidents, harassment, discrimination, and other employment matters.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers and legal counsel on workers' compensation, general liability, and employment practices claims.
  • Track and analyze claim trends to identify opportunities for preventive training and policy improvement.

Additional HR Functions

  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Assist with internal audits, I-9 and personnel file compliance.
  • Partner with payroll and benefits teams to resolve employee issues as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5 years of HR experience, with a strong focus on employee relations, preferably within the property management or real estate industry.
  • Solid understanding of employment laws and HR compliance practices across multiple states (especially California, if applicable).
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigations and handling sensitive employee issues with discretion and fairness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with remote, field-based teams.
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in property management, hospitality, or service industries with a dispersed workforce.
  • Familiarity with property management software and HRIS platforms.
  • Spanish multilingual ability, a plus.
