Position Summary:
A mid-sized manufacturer near Melrose Park, IL is seeking an experienced and dynamic Human Resources Director to take the helm of all recruiting, onboarding, and payroll operations. This is an ideal opportunity for a strategic and hands-on HR executive ready to build, optimize, and lead. The role requires someone who thrives in creating scalable processes, improving HR infrastructure, and driving hiring initiatives across all levels — from the plant floor to executive leadership.
This is a highly visible role reporting to senior leadership, ideal for someone who enjoys being both a strategic partner and tactical executor in a growing, team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Overview:
Recruiting & Talent Acquisition
- Lead end-to-end recruitment strategies to attract top talent across all departments (manufacturing, engineering, administrative, and executive).
- Partner with department heads to forecast staffing needs and align recruitment plans accordingly.
- Build and manage an effective internal recruiting function, reducing reliance on external agencies.
- Champion employer branding initiatives to position the company as an employer of choice in the region.
Onboarding & Employee Experience
- Overhaul and manage the onboarding process to ensure a seamless and engaging experience for new hires.
- Develop programs that enhance employee engagement, retention, and cultural alignment.
- Collaborate with department managers to ensure training plans and resources are in place for new employees.
Payroll & HR Operations
- Oversee payroll administration and ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
- Implement or optimize HRIS/payroll systems to streamline operations.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Identify gaps in current HR processes and implement scalable systems and procedures.
- Maintain and update employee policies and procedures.
- Manage employee relations and act as a trusted advisor to leadership and staff.
Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a key member of the leadership team to align HR strategy with business goals.
- Mentor and manage HR staff as the department grows.
- Lead organizational development, workforce planning, and succession planning initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree or HR certification preferred).
- 12+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or director-level role.
- Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments is strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of building or revamping HR functions, processes, or systems.
- Strong understanding of payroll operations and HR compliance requirements.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
