Position: Human Resources Business Partner Reports to: Human Resources Operations Manager Department: Human Resources (HR) Purpose: The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and Team Player that reflects the business objectives of Excel Fitness. Carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: coaching, development, performance management, conflict management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, internal mobility, staff retention, talent acquisition. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, including complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other work-related issues. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations. Recommend an appropriate resolution of complaints and monitor results.
  • Partner with leaders to identify key trends and analyze metrics to proactively develop ideas and solutions that improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provide performance management guidance to management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to management of Team Players, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Audit HR systems, processes, and programs and offers solutions for improvement.
  • Help evaluate and monitor training programs to ensure success and training objectives are met.
  • Help develop and maintain employee handbook policies, as well as department forms and procedures.
  • Conduct exit interviews, summarize findings, and discuss trends and concerns with management.
  • Create and introduce Team Player engagement programs that support the Excel culture.
  • Perform tasks required to support human resource programs including but not limited to compensation and benefits; leave, disability accommodations, and workers compensation; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; recruitment and onboarding; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Assist the HR Operations Manager with various research projects and/or other special projects.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required. Equivalent related work experience or combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of Associate's degree.
  • At least 3 years of progressive work experience in multiple aspects of HR with at least 1 year resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Certification in human resources related area is a plus (PHR or SHRM-CP).
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws (FLSA, EEOC, ADA, FMLA, etc.).
  • Business acumen including problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration across multiple functions and departments.
  • Ability to make sound judgements and decisions.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively in both a team and independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint and Excel; experience with HRIS and benefits databases.
  • Highly effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other Team Players at all levels across various departments. Budgetary Responsibility: This position will be issued a corporate credit card and will be authorized to spend up to $2,500 as needed. All purchases must be approved by the Senior HR Business Partner. Purchases greater than $500 must also be approved by the Vice President of Human Resources. Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, fax machines and phones. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that a Team Player must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, exempt position. Under the Regulations, Part 541, an exempt Team Player is one who is not entitled to the minimum wage or overtime pay protections of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Standard work days and hours are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This position may work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends. Travel: Up to 15% travel is expected for this position. Must be willing to travel based on company need to all locations. Overnight trips may be necessary.
