This role will support the Philadelphia site by overseeing day-to-day Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities, while also supporting the operations and maintenance of the facility. The individual will develop and deploy a subset of the HSE Management System at the site level in collaboration with the Site Facilities Manager. This hybrid role will play a key part in ensuring both site safety and facilities operations are integrated and efficient. The individual will also serve as a key stakeholder in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects and initiatives, ensuring that both HSE and Facilities objectives are aligned with sustainability and community goals.

Primary Duties:

  • Responsible for providing HSE support to ensure the site maintains a safe and healthy workplace, protects the environment, and adheres to applicable legal requirements while also supporting site facilities operations and maintenance activities.
  • Support all team members and processes at the bioMerieux, Inc. Philadelphia site, with both HSE and facilities teams to ensure a well-integrated approach to safety and facilities management.
  • Support Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain ISO regulated environment in the Biotechnology/Diagnostics Industry, ensuring both HSE processes and facilities operations comply with relevant standards.
  • Engage with the Site Facilities leadership to define and accept a distinct role developing and deploying a subset of HSE and Facilities processes, including facility inspections, maintenance planning, and compliance tracking.
  • Document, deploy and train key HSE system users as defined by the Facilities leadership, while also supporting facilities-related training programs for site staff on maintenance protocols, equipment usage, and safety measures.
  • Communicate progress milestones toward the HSE and facilities system development at the site level, ensuring alignment between safety goals and facility management objectives.
  • Deploy specific HSE procedures including risk assessments, job safety analyses, and environmental assessments, while also assisting in the implementation of facility-specific processes like preventative maintenance, equipment commissioning, and space utilization.
  • Assist with creating job plans for on-site preventative maintenance activities.
  • Develop safety standards for the site including, but not limited to, lock out tag out, contractor safety, electrical safety, etc.
  • Compile and report HSE metrics while also tracking key facilities metrics such as maintenance completion, equipment uptime, and energy consumption.
  • Work effectively with outside vendors and contractors and assist with key control and business personal property as directed.
  • Support general facilities activities as required, and able to work from drawings, email, electronic systems and/or verbal instructions using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Preform facilities related administrative and clerical task as assigned.
  • Support new equipment procurement user requirement specifications and commissioning activities, coordinating with both HSE and facilities teams to ensure safety and operational readiness.
  • Support ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 Certification Audits and associated activities.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards, maintaining alignment with both HSE guidelines and facilities management best practices.
  • Take an active role in the continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance both safety performance and facility operations, fostering a culture of proactive maintenance and environmental stewardship.
  • Training, Education & Experience:

    • Associate's degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related field. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
      • OSHA course certifications and practical experience in general industry occupational safety in a manufacturing or multi-functional operation. Must have experience in training preparation and presentation to individuals and groups. Must demonstrate this ability prior to job offer.
    • Minimum 2 years of HSE or related field technical experience required.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience within an ISO 14001 / 45001 certified organization preferred.
    • Minimum 1 year of experience with Continuous Improvement preferred.
    • Minimum 1 year of experience with CSR initiatives preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge and understanding of US compliance regulations including DOT/OSHA/EPA/NFPA preferred.
    • Demonstrate the behaviors of being a self-starter who is organized, detailed, conscientious, and ambitious. Lead by example.
    • Model behaviors such as being a team player with a positive attitude, approaching projects/tasks with a sense of ownership, and developing and improving the skill level and behaviors of others.

    • Ability to understand at a high level the equipment, processes, and products.
    • Ability to maintain and execute a Project Schedule.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps and the like.
    • Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.
    • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 lbs in all directions.
    • Domestic travel required
