General Statement of Duties A high school weight room monitor coach is responsible for designing and overseeing strength and conditioning programs tailored to the needs of student-athletes. Their duties include teaching proper lifting techniques to ensure safety, monitoring workouts to provide guidance and motivation, and tracking the progress of each athlete. They also collaborate with other coaches to align training regimens with the specific demands of various sports. Additionally, weight room coaches are responsible for maintaining equipment, ensuring a clean and organized workout environment, and promoting a culture of discipline and hard work. Their role is pivotal in helping students build strength, prevent injuries, and enhance overall athletic performance. Essential Duties
- Compliance: Adheres to HCPS and Virginia High School League (VHSL) regulations, including eligibility requirements and safety standards.
- Team Management: Organizes team logistics, such as transportation, equipment, uniforms, and schedules for practices and games.
- Player Recruitment: Evaluates and selects student-athletes through tryouts, assessing their skills and potential fit for the team.
- Player Evaluation: Assesses both individual and team performance throughout the season, providing constructive feedback.
- Communication: Maintains open lines of communication with athletes, parents, and school officials regarding schedules, expectations, and team updates.
- Accountability: Keeps the school athletic director (AD) informed about all aspects of the athletic program's development and management.
- Assistant Coach Oversight: Selects, trains, and evaluates assistant coaches.
- Fundraising and Fiscal Management: Organizes fundraising activities and manages the team's budget following county and district regulations and policies.
- Professional Development: Seeks opportunities for training and education to stay current on coaching strategies, techniques, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability as a strength and conditioning coach.
- Previous coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes.
- Coaches with prior college experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
