Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist provides administrative support by enhancing department functions by overseeing the organizations FMLA leave, time cards and performance evaluations. Also, answers non-routine correspondence and assembles highly confidential and sensitive information. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload, recommends changes in office practices or procedures. The Human Resources Generalist demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with staff, patients, families and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Handles the FMLA leave administration process from the employees initial notice of the need for leave to the return to work. This includes gathering and completing all required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying, requesting medical certification as needed, and accounting for intermittent and reduced schedule leave use
  • Verify designated timecards at the end of the pay period for accuracy and compliance with company policy and procedures.
  • Facilitates the new employee orientation.
  • Maintains employee photo database and distributes employee badges.
  • Establishes, develops, maintains and updates new employee files. Retrieves information from files when needed.
  • Answers phones for HR. Takes messages or fields/answers all routine and non-routine questions. Works in cooperation with other staff to cover phones and front desk.
  • Acts as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies, including high-level staff such as CEOs, directors, managers, and chiefs. Handles confidential and non-routine information and explains policies when necessary.
  • Works independently and within a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects. Acts as project manager for special projects, at the request of the DHR, which may include: training, and disseminating information.
  • Completes MS New Hire Reporting form, E-verify and verifies I-9 documentation and maintains books. Conducts periodic audits on books.
  • Maintains and updates Human Resource Information System records with employee changes and compiles reports from database as needed.
  • Complete employment history reference checks for existing and terminated staff according to company policy
  • Schedule meetings and interviews as requested by the DHR
  • Makes photocopies, faxes documents and performs other clerical functions.
  • Files papers and documents into appropriate employee files.
  • Demonstrates strong work ethic by display of attendance, punctuality and dedication to duty, including a willingness to travel and work extended/flexible hours.
  • Oversee labor law compliance and postings for all locations.
  • Facilitate annual compliance training which includes uploading videos and tests, creating certificates and badges and tracking completion.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.
  • Verify timecard at the end of each pay period.
  • Performs related work, as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in human resources or a related field or seven (7) years' experience in the HR field.
  • A valid Mississippi driver's license.
  • Excellent computer skills required
  • Ability to communicate in English and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational and planning skills to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and take initiative
  • Detail-oriented
  • Works independently with little direct supervision
  • Interacts with difficult individuals while maintaining composure
  • Able to work cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Able to work under stress in a fast-paced environment

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen and physical assessment.
  • Must be willing to do local and out-of-state travel.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 lbs. routinely.
