Position Summary
We are seeking a leader with strong technical healthcare professional liability underwriting skills to help develop guidelines, policies, and procedures for a newly formed team.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience underwriting excess healthcare professional liability on insurance and reinsurance bases.
- A strong understanding of actuarial rating models and various rating approaches for excess healthcare professional liability.
- Deep knowledge of healthcare professional liability excess policy wording and reinsurance agreements.
- Experience in drafting and executing underwriting guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop underwriting tools, guidelines, policies, and procedures, including underwriting appetite, referral criteria, coverage analysis, and pricing.
- Manage underwriting referrals.
- Assist in developing forms and endorsements for insurance and reinsurance policies.
- Build relationships with internal and external contacts to facilitate underwriting, promote business development, and stay informed of industry trends.
- Serve as a resource on underwriting tools, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze large, complex healthcare risks with underwriters to determine suitable structures, terms, and conditions for profitable writing.
Competencies
People Management
- While initial management of staff is not required, some management of the underwriting referral process is expected.
Experience
- 7-10 years of relevant underwriting or broking experience in HPL or related fields, including large account underwriting, loss rating, and form analysis.
Education
- Minimum 4-year/Bachelor's Degree.
Certification, Licenses, and Designations
- Studies towards or attainment of RPLU, CPCU, AU, CIC, or equivalent insurance designation.
Other
- Broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, emphasizing confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Travel Requirements
- Travel 25%-50% of the time.
- Driver's License required; passport not required.
