Job DetailsJob LocationFreedom House 4 (Brownsville, Brooklyn) - Brooklyn, NYPosition TypeFull-Time Non-ExemptSalary Range$45,000.00 - $55,000.00 Salary/yearDescriptionTitle: Housing SpecialistUnit: Freedom House Reports to: Manager of Residential ServicesSalary Range: $45,000 - $55,000 Status: Full-Time; Regular; Non-ExemptLocation: VariousDays/Hours: Day and Evening hoursPosition Summary:This individual will be responsible for conducting initial housing screening for new residents entering the Fortune Academy; develop relationships with housing providers; complete housing vouchers including Section 8, NYNYIII, and CityFeps; facilitate housing workshop and financial management groups and carrying a manageable caseload for participants who are part of the housing program.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Utilize various housing database systems to submit housing vouchers;
  • Develop relationships with housing providers, i.e. landlords, realtors, housing programs;
  • Carry a manageable caseload;
  • Participate in case conferences as needed;
  • Conduct toxicology;
  • Facilitate client groups;
  • Outreach potential clients, whether via external partners or through interdepartmental collaboration;
  • Use the agency's electronic database to record service provided;
  • Inform immediate supervisor of any barriers or challenges which may arise during the course of providing services;
  • Participate in professional development and training via a self-directed means or as requested by supervisor; and
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
QualificationsQualifications:
  • High school degree or GED required; some college preferred;
  • Experience providing housing assistance a must;
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office and familiarity with client management databases;
  • Be able to work independently and support a team approach;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required;
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish a plus;
  • Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, social issues faced by formerly incarcerated individuals;
  • Work schedule flexibility to provide group services during evening programming;
  • Ability to develop and establish groups;
