Job Title: Inpatient Pharmacist

Location: New York City, NY

Contract Duration: 26 Weeks

Shift: 5x8 Hours | Full-Time (37.5 Guaranteed Hours/Week)

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Pharmacist is responsible for providing appropriate drug therapy to both adult and pediatric patients. This includes thoroughly screening physician orders, accurately entering prescriptions into the system, monitoring therapy, compounding and dispensing medications, and serving as a drug information resource. The Pharmacist will also directly supervise pharmacy technicians and contribute to research and clinical protocol adherence.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice:

  • Screen and enter physician orders with accuracy.
  • Monitor patient therapy and recommend medication changes as needed.
  • Review patient charts for relevant data (diagnoses, allergies, BSA, procedures, etc.).
  • Follow up on omissions, discrepancies, or duplications.
  • Document clinical interventions multiple times daily.
  • Apply knowledge of drug regimens and disease states.
  • Follow MSKCC protocols for specific treatments (e.g., chemotherapy, antiemetics).
  • Participate in research and investigational drug protocols as needed.

Order Processing:

  • Screen, profile, and enter medication orders accurately.
  • Ensure all prescription labels include appropriate information (e.g., dose, instructions).
  • Compound and dispense medications without error.

Professional Development (Optional):

Category I (Higher-Level Achievements):

  • Authorship in national/state pharmacy journals or presentations.
  • Elected office in a professional organization.
  • Co-Investigator in IRB-approved protocols.
  • Completion of ASHP Board Certification or graduate courses.

Category II (Moderate Achievements):

  • In-service presentations.
  • Participation in departmental committees/projects.
  • Completion of non-graduate coursework.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited school.

Required Licensure & Certification:

  • Valid New York State Pharmacist License.
  • Pharmacists licensed in another state must be supervised until NY licensure is active.

Preferred Certifications:

  • BLS

Experience:

  • Open to all experience levels (new graduates welcome with oversight).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced computer proficiency required.
