Job Opportunity: Homemaker/Companion

Performs light housekeeping and companionship duties for clients in their homes. Reports to the RN Supervisor/Client Services Coordinator. Work schedule includes 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.

Qualifications:

Education: Completion of 9th grade with reading and writing skills necessary for job performance. Prefer completion of high school or its equivalent.

Licenses/Insurance: Access to operable, insured motor vehicle and valid drivers license with a safe driving record.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and assist clients with purchase, preparation, and serving of food.
  • Perform household tasks essential for patients health: light housekeeping, dishwashing, grocery shopping, ironing/mending, making/changing beds, tidying kitchen/bathroom/bedroom, clients personal laundry, errands.
  • Provide emotional support/respite/companionship as outlined in plan of care.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Identify and implement infection control (Universal Precautions).
  • Submit accurate and timely reports of client visit charges, hours of work, and mileage.
  • Practice proper body mechanics and observe appropriate safety measures.

Clerical Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Document daily home visits.
  • Complete daily time sheets.
  • Utilize Documentation System.
  • Keep records in accordance with agency policy.

Condition of Work Setting and Access to Client Home:

Employees are required to understand and accept the conditions presented in clients residences. The agency will not permit employees to work in unsafe settings; however, they may be required to work in settings that do not meet their own personal standards. Employees are to be prepared with proper clothing to drive and walk to a clients home. If a clients home is unsafe or a threat to public and personal health, the employee shall report their findings to the appropriate enforcement agency.

Environmental Conditions:

Work could be in varied environmental conditions, may not always be climate controlled. May be exposed to secondhand smoke, animals, and unsanitary household factors. May be subjected to emotionally upset clients and family members. This position involves exposure to fumes, dust, humidity, cold, heat, blood, body fluids or tissue.

Alcohol/Drug Free Workplace:

AV Home Care receives state and government funding and is required by federal law to maintain a drug-free workplace. Drug-free workplace policies and procedures are included in the personnel policies and, as a condition of employment, employees are expected to comply with all such policies and procedures.

Exposure (Infection) Control Policy:

All agency employees are required to follow the policies and procedures regarding exposure/infection control, including Universal and Standard Precautions and all required trainings and educational programs.

Confidentiality:

Protecting the integrity and confidentiality of the clients personal and medical history, as well as their records, is of major importance to the agency. An employee is not to discuss the medical condition of any client without prior written authorization from the client. The agency Release of Information statement restricts all employees of the agency to discuss medical issues pertinent to a client or a clients family only with those individuals with a need to know, and only with proper authorization. Any breach of client confidentiality will result in discipline and may result in immediate dismissal.
