Job Description :
The registered nurse (RN) demonstrates key behaviors in the areas of care delivery, leadership, collaboration, and professional growth. Care delivery includes assessing status, identifying problems, developing and implementing a plan of care through the delivery and delegation of care, evaluating care delivery, promoting patient/family education and involving the patient /family and other members of the healthcare team in planning and implementation to meet expected healthcare outcomes. Care is delivered, viewing the person as a whole being, including but not limited to physiological, psychological and spiritual aspects. Consideration of the individual's age, developmental level, learning ability, health status and belief system are integral in care delivery. Leadership is evidenced as RNs influence individuals or groups to accomplish goals through guiding, directing, teaching, coaching and motivating others. Communication and collaboration with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare professionals/disciplines is essential in delivering care. It is evidenced in multidisciplinary care planning, problem-solving etc. Professional growth is essential in providing care, as the RN shares knowledge, gains knowledge and contributes to knowledge through participation in formal and informal continuing education programs and research. The RN operates within the framework of the Mission, Vision, and Values of Holy Cross Hospital.
  • Interprets patient data accurately, and utilizes that data independently or in consultation with other health team members to plan and revise care. Critical values are called to the physician and noted.
  • Documents accurately, timely, legibly and appropriately; patient admission, assessments, care/discharge plans, interventions, evaluations, education, referrals, and current status.
  • Communicates pertinent information regarding patients to the PCT as needed.
  • Administers blood and blood components safely. All documentation is correct.
  • Safely secures, administers, and controls medications. This includes IV meds and oral meds. Resolves all discrepancies.
  • Has skills to perform IV venipuncture and maintain IV lines and dressing changes as per protocol.
  • Evaluates the patient's response to medications and provides necessary follow-up.
  • Educates patients/significant others, family members, coworkers and physicians while considering identified learning needs, developmental levels, language skills, functional capacity and learning styles of the individuals or groups being educated. Documents on the patient teaching flow record.
  • Utilizes restraints appropriately and documents alternatives according to policy and procedure. Focus notes are present every shift and the 24 hr. flow record is complete.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team to develop the discharge plan. Participates in length

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • 2 Years of experience in a hospital setting.
