About the Role
As a Histology Technician, you'll perform routine and specialized histology procedures to support accurate and timely diagnostics. You'll work with embedding, microtomy, special stains, immunohistochemistry, and grossing GI biopsies. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to quality standards, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced lab environment.
Responsibilities
- Gross specimens: describe, measure, and ink according to protocol
- Orient and embed tissue to ensure accurate cellular structure presentation
- Produce high-quality, artifact-free tissue sections and slides for diagnosis
- Perform routine and special staining procedures per established protocols
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and software systems
- Complete all required quality control and assurance documentation
- File, retrieve, and maintain tissue blocks and slides
- Monitor inventory and report low supplies; maintain equipment readiness
- Prioritize workload to meet deadlines and complete tasks within scheduled shift
- Maintain lab hygiene and safety standards, including proper hazardous waste disposal
- Comply with inspection, regulatory, and HIPAA guidelines
- Cross-train and assist in onboarding and training new staff
- Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and adherence to break schedules
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Associate degree in laboratory science (chemical or biological) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
- OR HT, HTL, or MLT (ASCP) certification
- OR equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined by CLIA regulations
- At least 1 year of experience as a Histology Technician
Preferred Qualifications
- ASCP certification as HT, HTL, or MLT (not required but strongly preferred)
