Highway & Roads Market Sector DirectorPrimary ResponsibilitiesMarket Sector Directors (MSD) drive our business within HDR's matrix management structure. The HDR's Highway & Roads (H&R) sector is the largest, generating nearly $1B annually globally. It includes clients owning and operating highways, toll roads, city, town, and local roads, and bridge structures. The primary professional services include: bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling services.
This role requires understanding of H&R clients, their funding, revenue streams, and their operations within governmental structures at various levels. The responsibilities are divided into:
The Director sets the vision for HDR's strategy to expand and serve clients in this sector, supporting growth initiatives, staff development, and strategic planning in coordination with various leadership teams. They maintain regular communication with regional and area leaders to implement growth and operational plans.
HDR's client base includes nearly every state department of transportation in the US and expanding internationally. The Director supports business development, client management, growth initiatives, and branding efforts, engaging employees and developing HDR's market presence.
Business DevelopmentResponsibilities include understanding the marketplace, supporting local business strategies, and leading efforts to win contracts. The role involves:
Leading the organization for optimal performance, growth, and recruitment, including:
Assisting project delivery, monitoring performance indicators, promoting quality assurance, and facilitating knowledge sharing.
QualificationsPreferred: 20+ years in highway/bridge planning or engineering, PE license, leadership in industry associations.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, 12+ years of industry experience, strong communication, client management, business skills, and a commitment to HDR's culture.
