Duties Operate heavy construction and maintenance equipment such as scrapers, graders dozers, backhoes, dump trucks, front-end loaders, fork lifts, chains saws, 18-wheeler trucks, and other types of equipment for maintenance and construction involving streets.Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of street repair activities, direct and control traffic around work sites; water down streets and flush drains.Identify needs for assigned projects. Pick up and deliver equipment from construction sites.Maintain and repair any type of heavy equipment or equipment used in streets department.Grade and crown City streets, roads and alleys using motor grader; roll asphalt; maintain asphalt and concrete roadway surfaces.Read grades and slope stakes in leveling, surfacing and rolling roads.Clean debris from ditches, culverts and creek beds; bulldoze land as required; collect and haul trash, garbage, debris, dirt, sand and gravel;Operate street sweeper; clean and maintain roadways; clean storm drains; and remove ice and snow from roadways as appropriate.Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner. Provide information within area of assignment and resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.Works with and assists the line crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe or front-end loader. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment. Assists in the installing and maintenance of traffic control devices. Plows snow and salts roads according to departmental policy. Spray chemical insecticides and herbicides as needed.Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience: Requires High School Diploma or GED Certificates and Licenses: Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License Knowledge and Skills: Operation and maintenance of power-driven equipment, Practices, methods, and materials used in general construction, grounds maintenance, and general maintenance work. Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities including walking, standing, bending, sitting for extended periods of time and operating various types of equipment or vehicles. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices; and use of hazardous chemical, herbicides and fertilizers.
