Telecommunications Directional Drill Operator And Locator
This role involves using directional drilling and locator equipment to ensure the precise placement of underground infrastructure. The position requires working on construction projects throughout the service territory, with competitive wages, exceptional benefits, and profit sharing opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all safety regulations and industry standards at Company, Utility, Local, State, and Federal levels.
- Perform setup and teardown of equipment and job sites, ensuring all hazards are removed.
- Develop a plan for the route by conducting daily surveys and taking measurements for accurate placement of underground infrastructure, ensuring all utilities are located and exposed according to procedures.
- Operate directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently to install underground infrastructure while meeting project specifications.
- Determine water needs based on ground conditions and complete mud mixing for boring, and fill water tanks.
- Maintain and calibrate machinery, tools, and safety equipment as needed, participating in emergency repairs.
- Provide accurate records of job activities and daily equipment reports; perform QC & QA on all equipment and completed work.
- Collaborate with lead, supervisor, and/or manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned by lead, supervisor, and manager.
Essential Skills:
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment including directional drills, vacuum excavators, mini excavators, skid loaders, trenchers, cable plows, bucket trucks, and aerial lifts.
- Proficiency in accurately operating underground locating equipment and bore rigs.
- Capability to perform maintenance on drill equipment and mixing units.
- Adherence to established standards.
- Ability to work a variable schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and travel as needed.
- Strong oral, written, and organizational skills.
- Self-motivation and ability to work well unsupervised.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and check.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- High school degree or GED is required.
- A valid Iowa Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, with tanker endorsement.
- Experience using hand tools and construction equipment preferred.
- 1+ year(s) of relevant experience preferred.

Work Environment:
The role is based in Southeast Iowa, operating primarily in areas like Ottumwa, Grinnell, Sigourney, New Sharon, and Newton. Work will be conducted with a team of 5-6 people, primarily operating equipment throughout the day.
Job Type & Location:
This is a Permanent position based out of Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $72800.00/yr. Will work Monday through Thursday 6:30am-5:00pm---- FRIDAYS OFF! Not a ton of overtime as they really pride themselves on having a work life balance for their employees. (The project is about a year behind so will work occasional Fridays but pretty rare)
If applicable, mileage (if traveling over 60 miles) and lodging will be reimbursed per our company policy. Wage is competitive, benefits are exceptional, and each team member has the opportunity to receive profit sharing each year.
Pay will be $30-$35 an hour
