The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, and rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as tractors, mowers, cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.

• Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
• Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoist and hand tools.
• Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
• Develop parts and materials lists for needed repairs.
• Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.
• Test overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
• Welds broken parts and structural members.
• May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
• May repair, adjust and maintain 2-cycle motors and equipment.
• Oversee equipment operators in the performance of daily routine maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 5 years experience with like and similar equipment
• Valid Drivers License
• High School Graduate or GED equivalent
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
