Essential Functions
- Responsible for creating, planning, organizing and providing supervision & oversight for assigned recreation activities, services, facilities, special events, classes, and programs.
- Implements a customer service model that enhances positive communication and support for all customers, both internal and external.
- Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates health and wellness staff and volunteers. This includes determining workloads and schedules, implementing and interpreting policies and procedures, effectively evaluating staff and making hiring and disciplinary recommendations.
- Coordinates the development of promotional materials for programs and events to attract volunteer, participant, and partnership involvement.
- Provides input into the development of annual budgets, including recommending staffing levels and equipment and supplies purchases; assists with fundraising campaigns and solicits sponsor and sponsorship packages as appropriate.
- Assists with member promotions, member retention efforts, and customer satisfaction.
- Monitors program activities, including approving expenditures and ensuring activities are running smoothly; responds to questions and complaints and manages recreate equipment and supply inventory.
- Develops schedules, registration processes and fees for recreation services.
- Conducts outreach and marketing activities with users, donors, sponsors and community groups and performs related work as required.
- Must provide member services including personal training, group exercise instruction, wellness coaching and more!
- Assist in driving business impact to positively affect community growth, change, and citizen satisfaction with their municipal team and services.
- Develops, coordinates, implements, supervises, monitors, evaluates and promotes diverse, outcomes-based recreational programs, activities and events to meet the community's needs.
- Promotes, plans, and coordinates a medically-integrated corporate wellness program at a variety of locations both on and off site, including meeting with public groups and organizations to explain and promote programs; schedules activities and programs designed to address identified health and wellness needs specific to each organization's population.
- Promotes, plans, and coordinates a medically-integrated corporate wellness program for the City of Liberty in cooperation with the Human Resources Department
- Establishes and maintains contacts with neighborhood groups, schools, businesses, law enforcement agencies, volunteers, and other community groups. Provides necessary coordination of services per partnership agreements.
- Works with the Assistant Director to analyze trends and evaluate changing community needs. Makes recommendations to improve operations and expand health and wellness program participation.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Principles and practices of employee supervision, including work planning, assignment and review and the training of staff in work procedures.
- Principles and practices of managing recreational programs for community parks, community centers, aquatic centers and/or athletic facilities.
- Professional written and verbal communication standards.
- Pertinent laws that affect assigned division and department.
- Professional customer experience skills in order to interact with a diverse population.
- Prepare and present ideas that support overall goals of the department and City.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of essential duties including operating and maintaining assigned equipment.
- Maintain mental capacity which permits satisfactory performance of essential functions including decision-making, communication, teamwork and positive customer/citizen interactions and experiences.
- Stay informed and educated of industry best practices and trends.
- Prepare clear and concise plans, reports, analyses and project updates and effectively present said information.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of department budget.
- Work under steady pressure with frequent interruptions.
Experience/Training/Licenses/Certifications
- Five years of increasingly responsible experience in recreational programming, business management, or a related field required.
- Must have a minimum of one year of lead or supervisory experience.
- Significant experience managing the delivery of outcomes-based community wellness programs and services preferred.
- Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation administration, physical education, exercise science, health & wellness community health, leisure services or a related field.
- National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited credential or equivalent certification in personal training, group fitness instructor, or health coach, preferred.
- If applying without above mentioned certification, one must be obtained within 6 months.
- Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid or the ability to become certified during a City sponsored CPR/AED First Aid course.
