As a member of the Mecklenburg County Public Health team, you will become asubject matter expert in the public health field. Position Summary Manage and promote community health education to assist individuals, families,and communities to maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles. This position,under minimal supervision, is responsible for strategizing, buildingpartnerships, and engaging with diverse communities within Mecklenburg County. Essential Functions -Coordinate and facilitate comprehensive community education programs insupport of Health Promotion, Chronic Disease Prevention, and other MCPHprograms -Design and distribute engaging health education materials that are culturallyappropriate and tailored to meet the needs of diverse populations -Conduct outreach, marketing, and education in the implementation of programs -Provide technical and program consultation to internal MCPH partners andmanagement -Plan exhibits, participate in health and resource fairs, and conduct healthpromotion and public education forum discussions to motivate audiences tounderstand health issues and offerings of MCPH -Serve as a liaison between MCPH and the community to work toward eliminatinghealth disparities and promoting equity to support and improve health outcomes -Engage community agencies to provide resources and support for targetedpopulations to improve their health and general well-being -Respond in cases of urgent and/or emergent events that require public healthinterventions. Employees may be trained for and assigned duties unrelated totheir regular work; work outside normal business hours and workdays and/or in adifferent work location may be required. Emergency events include, but are notlimited to, communicable disease outbreaks, severe weather situations (e.g.snow or ice storms, tornados, hurricanes), natural disasters (e.g.earthquakes), fire, or power outages, and acts of terrorism. Minimum Qualifications Experience: -Minimum of two years of experience in health education or related field Education: -Bachelor's degree in Health Education or health-related field required Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes Licenses and Certifications -Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License. -Must obtain and maintain a valid Mecklenburg County Vehicle Operator's Permit. -Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required Preferred Qualifications -Energetic self-starter with experience in community engagement (HighlyPreferred) -Experience working with diverse populations including underserved ormarginalized communities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of -Principles and practices of public health -Local resources and services -Person-centered planning Skills -Ability to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate communication and healtheducation strategies -Excellent oral and written communication skills -Ability to design, develop, and adapt presentations on a variety of healthtopics targeted toward a diverse audience -Good presentation and interpersonal relationship skills Abilities -Applied Learning: Assimilating and applying new job-related information in atimely manner -Collaboration: Working effectively and cooperatively with others; establishingand maintaining good working relationships -Communication: Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety ofmedia to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helpsthem understand and retain the information provided -Leveraging Diversity: Working effectively with individuals of diversecultures, interpersonal styles, abilities, motivations, or backgrounds; makingthe most effective use of the capabilities, insights and ideas of allindividuals -Building Partnerships: Identifying opportunities and taking action to buildstrategic relationships between one's area and other areas, teams, departments,units or organizations to help achieve business goals -Safety Intervention: Having knowledge of conditions that affect patient, self,and/or employee safety under normal conditions and conditions that occur incrisis situations; skilled in identifying conditions that might cause health orsafety hazards and takes action to remove such hazards; understands all aspectsof providing a safe environment for patient, self, and/or others in crisis Computer Skills -Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft OfficeSuite Compensation & Benefits In addition to a competitive salary, Mecklenburg County offers a generousbenefits package which greatly increases your total compensation.
