Summary:

As a Health and Safety Specialist you will focus on improving Health and Safety by using your experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace and engage employees in the development of a strong H&S culture.

Responsibilities:

• Follow LGESMI existing cleaning SOP's during downtime (e.g. line stop, waiting time, etc.), which includes cleaning your designated machine and/or surrounding work area
• Support safety trainings to employees
• Ensure effective hazard identification and mitigation for plant operations and administrative offices
• Conduct daily line walks to ensure S&H practices are being observed and to note any at-risk behaviours, unsafe conditions, faulty equipment or non-compliance with any H&S related policies/regulations
• Ensure timely communication of safety issues/concerns to department leadership
• Support cross-functional teams to drive improvements across the organization
• Support incident investigations and track corrective actions
• Conduct new equipment reviews, mechanical risk assessments and ergonomic risk assessments
• Support emergency response drills and critiques
• Support new hire orientation, contractor safety and other H&S related training topics
• Support workplace compliance evaluations in regard to local, state and federal regulations
• Support jobsite auditing and conducts incident investigation
• Conduct inspections and ensures compliance with applicable H&S regulations and standards
• Maintain cleanliness at worksite in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
• Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
• Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or equivalent, relevant experience

Experience:

• 1 to 3+ years of experience evaluating and improving Safety and Health programs in a manufacturing environment
• Strong knowledge of and experience working with OSHA and state/local regulations and requirements
• Professional certification (ASP/CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred but not required.
