Head of Sorting Technology
We are seeking a Head of Sorting Technology to join our engineering team. This leadership role involves developing robotics technology to automatically sort battery feedstock at our recycling plants. The successful candidate will build and lead a cross-functional engineering team comprising software, controls, mechanical, and electrical engineers to shape the future of sorting technology at Redwood Materials.
Responsibilities include:
Leading the architecture, design, implementation, and testing of an automated battery sorting system.Managing and mentoring a cross-functional team of engineers.Fostering a culture of safety, execution, and innovation through data-driven engineering.Collaborating with product, finance, operations, and engineering teams to refine system requirements aligned with business needs and technical standards.Deciding on make versus buy options for hardware and software components, including sensors, actuators, conveyor systems, ML infrastructure, and compute systems.Authorship of system requirements to ensure reliable and accurate sorting processes.Owning the technology roadmap for automated sorting systems within the company.Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering with 10+ years of engineering and leadership experience in dynamic environments.
- Proficiency in hardware and software stacks relevant to robotics, vehicle automation, or factory automation.
- Knowledge of various automation components such as sensors, vision systems, actuators, motion control, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform essential job functions safely and effectively, complying with ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
- Consistent punctual attendance as per regulatory standards.
Working Conditions:
- Office or outdoor environments.
- Ability to work in challenging conditions involving noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, with PPE as needed.
- Physical activities such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends, nights, or be on-call.
This is a full-time position with compensation based on experience.
