About the role...

Join Duolingo as our Head of Global Communications and help shape how the world understands and connects with our mission, products, and people. This is a unique opportunity to lead a high-impact, globally scaled communications function at one of the most beloved consumer tech brands.

From major product announcements to executive visibility to global communication strategy, this role will lead a high-impact team in charge of global consumer and corporate communications, U.S. PR, as well as global events. You'll craft and amplify stories that reflect Duolingo's mission, build trust and brand love among our community, and strengthen our position as a world-class consumer tech brand. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, you'll collaborate closely with partners across the company, Marketing, global country teams and executive leadership. This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA or New York, NY.

• Lead and evolve Duolingo's global communications strategy, partnering with regional teams ensuring a unified and impactful voice across U.S. and international markets.
• Develop and execute our corporate PR strategy, including earnings communication and executive thought leadership.
• Oversee U.S. PR efforts, including agency management, budget allocation, and media strategy.
• Drive consumer PR initiatives that align with major product launches, marketing campaigns, and brand moments.
• Cultivate deep relationships with top-tier journalists and media outlets to secure impactful earned media coverage.
• Partner closely with marketing, product, legal, and country teams to align PR with product launches, cultural moments, and brand storytelling.
• Guide internal communications strategy, ensuring clear, consistent messaging across the company and supporting senior executives with strategic counsel and speaking platforms.

• 15+ years of communications experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role at high-growth consumer tech or consumer brand companies.
• Proven success developing and executing global communications strategies across diverse geographies and media environments, including launches of new markets and new countries.
• Deep media relations skills, with a track record of securing and maintaining high-impact coverage and navigating both success and crisis moments.
• A go-getter attitude always on the lookout for the next PR opportunity.
• Exemplary storytelling, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and formats.
• Experience leading internal and executive communications that build transparency and thought leadership.

Exceptional candidates will have...

• Experience communicating on behalf of a public company, including earnings and investor relations support.
• An affinity for Duolingo's mission of education access, and experience amplifying social impact.
• Experience with entertainment and cultural partnerships, particularly where product and brand intersect.
• Multilingual or experience navigating communication across languages and cultures.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to our global offices.
