Position: Full-Time

The Opportunity

The Head of GIA Model Development will leverage extensive experience in financial modeling and software development to lead a team of quantitative developers. The role requires expertise in asset liability management, fixed income, and equity instrument modeling, working closely with strategists and subject matter experts to enhance our General Investment Account (GIA) analytics and features. Proficiency in Python and SQL, along with familiarity with cloud technologies, is essential. The candidate will oversee the development and support of analytics applications, communicate model results, and contribute to MassMutual's market analytics in a dynamic environment.

The Team

This role is part of the Quantitative Research and Development (R&D) team within Investment Management, focusing on researching new strategies and developing technology and analytics for hedging programs. The environment fosters learning, skill development, and innovation, encouraging collaborative participation across initiatives.

The Impact

The primary responsibility is to lead the team managing MassMutual's fixed income asset models for market risk management. Key duties include:

  • Designing and building advanced technology solutions for risk analytics to support investment hedging strategies.
  • Supporting existing risk tracking applications and providing guidance for Asset Liability Management (ALM).
  • Collaborating with Quantitative R&D to develop models for new asset classes and strategies.
  • Creating cloud-based solutions for reporting and increasing model efficiency.
  • Ensuring platform stability through comprehensive testing.
  • Partnering with other departments as a subject matter expert in asset modeling.
  • Implementing best practices for model governance and compliance.
  • Leading and managing a team of 2-5 quantitative developers and actuaries.
  • The Minimum Qualifications
    • At least 10 years of experience with financial instruments, rate risk, and asset liability management.
    • Strong Python programming skills.
    • Experience in software development, automation, code management, and testing.
    • Degree in STEM field.
    • Experience with analytics models for valuation and risk across market instruments.
    The Ideal Qualifications
    • Certifications such as FSA or CFA.
    • Leadership experience in a modeling team.
    • Proficiency in collaborative coding environments.
    • Knowledge of financial rate instruments and interest rate risk.
    • Familiarity with Python, SQL, Excel, Git, AWS, and open-source tools.
    • Ability to own and defend technical decisions.

    Salary Range:

    $180,700.00 - $237,100.00
