We're looking for a full-time Head of Engineering to lead product development as we scale. This is a foundational leadership role with the opportunity to shape our engineering culture from the ground up. You'll work directly with our CEO, guide a talented distributed development team, and play a central role in building our AI-powered platform. This role can be fully remote.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Lead and mentor our existing development team, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
- Define and implement engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality controls.
- Architect scalable, maintainable systems that enable rapid product iteration.
- Drive decision-making across the full stack, with a particular focus on frontend excellence.
Product Development
- Translate business requirements into robust technical specifications.
- Lead the development of our AI-powered legal tech platform from concept to production.
- Seamlessly integrate AI/ML capabilities into intuitive, user-facing applications.
- Continuously optimize performance, reliability, and scalability as our customer base grows.
Strategic Planning
- Build and execute a technical roadmap aligned with company objectives.
- Research, evaluate, and implement new technologies, frameworks, and AI tools to stay ahead of the curve.
- Manage technical debt, infrastructure investments, and scaling initiatives.
- Provide technical insight during product strategy discussions.
Team Management
- Coordinate with a distributed development team across multiple time zones.
- Establish clear communication, project management, and delivery processes.
- Identify skill gaps and lead recruiting, training, or vendor selection as needed.
- Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Technical Expertise
- 7+ years in software development, with at least 3+ years in engineering leadership.
- Strong frontend skills (React or Vue.js); experience deploying via Vercel is a plus.
- Full-stack experience with backend APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure.
- Proficiency in AWS services (e.g., Textract, S3/Cloud Storage).
- Experience integrating and deploying AI/ML models in production (especially OpenAI APIs).
- Familiarity with vector databases and OCR tools.
Leadership & Management
- Proven track record leading remote, distributed teams.
- Experience managing both in-house developers and external contractors.
- Skilled in planning, prioritizing, and delivering in fast-paced environments.
- Strong communicator, able to bridge technical and business discussions.
Industry Experience
- Background in B2B SaaS, ideally in early-stage or growth-stage startups.
- Experience scaling products from MVP to market-ready production.
- Understanding of modern DevOps practices and full software lifecycle.
- Comfortable working with authentication systems and metadata-driven architectures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with document processing, workflow automation, or case management systems.
- Hands-on with AI model training, fine-tuning, or prompt engineering.
- Previous role as a founding engineer or technical co-founder.
