Security Benefit is looking for a hands-on experienced individual to be the Head of our NxtGen Labs, concentrating on Generative AI (GenAI). In this role, you'll be a key player in driving innovative products throughout the organization, using GenAI and large language models, leading research and development of the latest GenAI trends and platforms. This is a remote role with occasional travel to our home office in Topeka, KS or New York office as business needs require.

What Does the Job Look Like?

You will lead and manage the execution of proof of concepts and foster a culture learning and collaboration. This includes managing program and project delivery, overseeing use case workstream pilots. You'll work closely with the Data Enablement & Analytics (DEA) Team, delivering AI products to production, and at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Lead the Lab focused on GenAI and work with multiple senior stakeholders across the company
  • Use case identification : Work closely with the DEA Team and with various business units and stakeholders to identify and scope potential use cases for generative AI within the organization.
  • Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for GenAI research and development, aligning it with the company's overall goals and objectives.
  • Research and Development (R&D): Lead and participate in research activities to explore and advance state-of-the-art generative AI techniques.
  • Product integration: Collaborate with DEA product manager and team to integrate GenAI technologies and solutions into our products and services.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Work with business stakeholders and the DEA Business Analytics & Decision Science Team to drive the adoption of GenAI and large language models (LLM), identifying opportunities for innovation and value creation.
  • Regulatory and Legal compliance: Ensure that AI initiatives meet regulatory, compliance and legal requirements while pushing the boundaries of technology innovation.
  • External partnerships: Engage with external start-ups and research providers to ensure that we use the correct and best technology.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, data science or related degrees; MSc/MA/PhD preferred
  • Eight-plus (8+) years of AI and Innovation Management, with a focus on AI and machine learning applications, LLM, NLP, and generative AI as well as people and process management
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, deploying, and optimizing transformer models using deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
  • Expertise in leveraging pre-trained transformer models for multiple downstream tasks, including text classification and question answering.
  • Hands-on experience delivering AI products in a technical leadership capacity
  • Hands-on experience in quantitative and qualitative research, statistical analysis, reporting, and/or data analysis of large, longitudinal data sets.
  • Experience and understanding of how to define and deliver GenAI products
  • Knowledge in AI SDLC and ML Ops platforms
  • Annuity, Mutual Fund and Life Insurance background is preferred
  • Ability to work with end users, stakeholders, Data Scientists and all levels of the organization
  • Provide proper business and technical documentation to satisfy all corporate guidelines
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with company policies and procedures that are applicable to the job function
