Haymarket Media is seeking an editorial leader who thrives at the intersection of scientific knowledge, digital innovation, and the evolving needs of health care professionals (HCPs). The Head of Content will optimize the department's medical content development strategy, editorial operations, and audience engagement tactics in a fast-paced, data-informed environment. The Haymarket Medical Network is a dynamic portfolio of over 20 award-winning brands dedicated to empowering clinical audiences across diverse therapeutic areas. The ideal candidate is equal parts visionary and grammar enthusiast, with a love for the Oxford comma and a knack for the perfect headline.

You're an energetic doer who creates, implements and optimizes processes to unlock creativity. You develop new workflows and build a plan to monitor and quantify success, bringing your learning and insights to every new project as you go. You're a magnet who attracts talented people to your team of editors and journalists and a mentor who nurtures future leaders within the organization. You understand that the best digital content is the result of skill, creativity, analysis, and technical know-how and you will work with colleagues in product, analytics, email operations, art, marketing, and SEO to grow our audience, lengthen engagement, and develop new products and digital experiences. You are a digital native who understands the power of interactive audio and video content to inform and inspire audiences. Further, you understand how AI is transforming the media landscape and reader behavior and you will contribute forward-thinking ideas to help our business evolve in light of these changes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Content Leadership: Organize, develop, and lead a world-class content team to anticipate and deliver must-have, timely information that addresses the evolving clinical and professional needs of HCPs. A look towards how to unify, implement and utilize across all medical businesses and eventually company-wide.
  • Audience Engagement & Growth: Oversee the strategic growth and cultivate deep loyalty among HCP audiences across the 20 (and growing!) Haymarket Medical Network brands by providing highly relevant and engaging content solutions. Partner with other key stakeholders in the business to develop an overarching audience plan across the Haymarket Medical Network. Ownership over how the content and audience plan drives revenue, brand value, and overall business growth.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead collaboration with internal partners to establish ambitious audience engagement targets, assess content ROI, and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Industry & Clinical Partnerships: Forge strategic relationships with leading industry professionals and clinical experts to cocreate cutting-edge content, enhance discoverability, and foster deeper audience engagement.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: Leverage advanced analytics and audience insights to continuously inform content strategy, optimize delivery channels, and drive future process and digital product development. Stay on top of emerging trends in the industry to inform content strategy.
  • Technology & Efficiency: Assess and vet new technologies, platforms, including the effective and appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence, to continuously improve editorial team offerings, enhance content creation efficiency, and expand digital capabilities.
  • Talent Development: Provide mentorship and strategic direction to content leaders, nurturing essential skills for digital content creators and fostering future leadership within the organization.
  • Revenue Growth Collaboration: Partner with commercial leadership to identify and realize new revenue growth opportunities through innovative content solutions and partnerships.
  • Thought Leadership: Maintain an external presence as a prominent thought leader and brand ambassador within the health care industry and relevant professional organizations.
  • Budget Oversight: Oversee and manage departmental editorial budgets with a focus on maximizing impact and efficiency.

Skills and Requirements:

You already have experience leading diverse digital content teams and have produced meaningful content for HCP audiences. You have impeccably high standards for accuracy and journalistic excellence along with an understanding of scientific data; you hold your team and peers to those standards and share your expertise with everyone. You're an evangelist for high quality content, SEO, email best practices, data analysis, and new product development.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree required; journalism, English or related field of study preferred
  • 15+ years of professional experience with 5+ in a senior leadership role
  • Excellent analytic and communications skills required
  • Experience with WordPress, Eloqua, Brightcove and other digital content platforms
  • Highly organized, focused, and a strong attention to detail
  • Familiar with AMA style and scientific reporting standards
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • The salary range for this position is $150,000–$200,000. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, skill level, functional and/or industry knowledge, education level, certifications, as well as other qualifications.
