Head of Advanced Data Platforms - Managing Director - Citi : Job Details

We are seeking an industry-leading, hands-on technologist to join Citi as the Managing Director, Head of Advanced Platforms. This is a senior leadership role responsible for reinventing how applications are developed, deployed, and managed at scale across Citi's global organization. The ideal candidate is a visionary engineer and leader who will define the future of our application architecture and create gold-standard platforms and practices to accelerate our cloud-native and AI-first transformation. This role requires a deep technical background, a strategic mindset, and a passion for building and mentoring world-class engineering teams.

Salary range: $250,000.00 - $500,000.00. In addition to salary, Citi's offerings may include discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards. Anticipated Posting Close Date: Sept 15, 2025

• Lead Engineering of Codified Platforms: Lead the design and engineering of codified application platforms that serve as the gold standard for development across Citi's businesses and functions. These platforms will be the foundation for modern, secure, and scalable application development.
• Champion Cloud-Native Technologies: Champion the use of containerization (Kubernetes, Docker) and serverless technologies, creating optimized and reusable solutions for both private and public cloud environments.
• Establish an AI First Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive AI First strategy for the developer organization, driving the accelerated re-platforming of Citi's vast application estate using modern, AI-enhanced toolchains.
• Architect AI Integration Blueprints: Design reusable blueprints and frameworks for injecting advanced AI/ML capabilities (e.g., generative AI, predictive analytics, intelligent automation) into new and existing applications and workflows.
• Build and Guide a World-Class Team: Build, lead, and mentor a team of world-class engineers who exemplify engineering excellence and influence Citi's broader technology community.
• Drive Developer Experience: Define and implement a best-in-class developer experience to empower engineers to build and innovate faster and more effectively.
• Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with senior technology and business leaders to align the advanced platforms strategy with business goals and drive adoption of new standards across the firm.

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with a significant portion in a senior leadership or principal engineer capacity.

• Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems and application architectures for high-performance environments.

• Deep, hands-on expertise with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker) and serverless technologies on public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and private cloud environments.

• Demonstrated experience in establishing and leading high-performing engineering teams.

• Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and experience in architecting solutions that apply them to improve software development processes and application capabilities.

• Visionary leader with excellent communication and influencing skills, capable of driving change in a large, complex organization.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
