Responsibilities

Fort Lauderdale Behavioral Health Center is a 182-bed, acute care psychiatric hospital located in the Oakland Park neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, FL. It features individual units for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, offering inpatient acute care, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. Annually, over 10,000 patients receive care from our compassionate healthcare team.

The Group Therapist facilitates process and psychoeducational groups to help patients achieve their treatment goals and optimal emotional health during recovery. The role involves facilitating groups for individuals struggling with substance abuse disorder.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required
Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a behavioral health or psychiatric counseling setting with adults and/or adolescents, treating co-occurring, mentally ill, or chemically dependent patients, with knowledge of co-occurring disorders, therapeutic group procedures, dynamics, and cultural diversity
Licensure/Certification
  • CPR certification
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong therapeutic skills and understanding of therapeutic philosophies (group and individual)
  • Knowledge of developmental stages
  • Basic understanding of community resources
  • Effective communication skills with patients of varied comprehension levels
  • Strong assessment and intervention skills
  • Awareness of diverse cultures and practices
