Job Title: Groundskeeper - Equipment Operator Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt/At-Will Reports To: Lead Groundskeeper Pay Grade/Days: 307/240 Dept./School: Maintenance Date Revised: August 2009 Primary Purpose: Assist in the operation of maintaining district-wide lawns, parking lots, service drives, school tracks, play areas, sidewalks, creek beds, and any other landscaping in need of care. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED certificate or experience exceptable by district Valid Texas driver's license Must be eligible to drive based on the Texas DPS School Transportation Guidelines Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow oral and written instructions and the ability to communicate effectively Demonstrated proficiency in operating grader, track-mounted loader, back how, front loader, all manner of lifts, and trencher Ability to read and follow basic construction documents Ability to read and interpret blueprints and landscape plans Experience: Five (5) years experience as an equipment operator Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Perform assigned operation of heavy equipment with or without related attachments. 2. Assist in developing cost estimates for grounds projects, assists in the purchase of job site materials; submit accurate daily work orders on a timely basis. 3. Maintain equipment in good operating condition; report needed repairs to equipment, insures that tools and equipment are properly used. 4. Perform duties at times other than normal scheduled work periods as required, performs such other tasks as may be assigned. 5. Maintain district property through asphalt paving, concrete work, and fence installation. 6. Assist in shooting grades for dirt work. 7. Assist with welding projects as needed.8. Mow and detail all district grounds. 9. Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers by pruning, fertilizing, mulching, and caring for beds and controlling weeds. 10. Plant shrubs and vegetation. 11. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities. 12. Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems. 13. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields. 14. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. 15. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. 16. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. 17. Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition. 18. Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed. 19. Assist with maintenance of district property through asphalt paving, concrete work and fence installation. 20. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Dump truck, steel wheel roller tractor with attachments, out-front mover, grader, track loader, tractor mover, bucket loader, and general construction tools Working Conditions: Tobacco Free, Gun Free, Drug Free Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Typical school atmosphere. Frequent interruptions. Strenuous standing, stooping, walking, climbing ladders, bending, pushing and pulling, must be physically fit and able to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Working indoors, outdoors, in extreme temperatures including hot and cold temperature swings, inclement weather, with exposure to dust, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), loud noises, and working on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Frequent district wide travel.
