Salary : $38,693.07 AnnuallyLocation : AmericusJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 202300067Department: Public WorksDivision: Grounds & MaintenanceOpening Date: 05/19/2025 DescriptionThe purpose of Grounds and & Maintenance Supervisor classification within the Grounds & Maintenance department is to coordinate and oversee projects involving the construction, maintenance and repair of City sidewalks, curbs, storm drains, other City grounds, public works projects, and other maintenance projects. Examples of Duties*The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, and completing employee performance appraisals.Oversees activities of correctional officers engaged in supervising inmate work crews assigned to work detail involving maintenance of City grounds, public works projects, and other maintenance projects.Coordinates hiring of new correctional officers.Coordinates daily work activities of work crews.Ensures compliance of employees and inmates with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.Oversees safety activities; ensures adherence of employees and inmates work crews with established safety procedures.Plans, coordinates, and supervises a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects; inspects job sites prior to commencement of work; determines necessary equipment and materials to conduct projects; ensures availability of adequate equipment/materials to conduct projects; monitors status of work in progress and troubleshoots problems; monitors work quality and inspects completed work.Maintains inventory of equipment, tools, and parts used on work details.Ensures proper operations of equipment; performs basic maintenance/repair work; conducts on-site pickup of malfunctioning equipment; coordinates necessary maintenance/repair work with appropriate service providers.Assists in preparing and administering budget for assigned division.Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, disciplinary reports, performance evaluations, meeting minutes, or other documents.Responds to and provides staff assistance for emergency situations such as inclement weather, natural disasters, holes in pavement, oil spills, downed trees in streets, or other situations.Responds to complaints and questions related to department operations.Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations.Operates a variety of equipment and tools associated with work activities.Assists in performing various manual tasks associated with work projects.Performs other related duties as required. Typical QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in corrections, equipment operation/maintenance, or grounds maintenance.Experience: One-year previous experience and/or training involving corrections, equipment operation, equipment maintenance, grounds maintenance, and supervision; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Supplemental InformationRequired Certifications and Licenses Valid in the State of Georgia.Must possess and maintain valid Georgia Peace Officer's Standard of Training certification.
