Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report directly to the Senior Magazine Art Director
- Responsible for hands-on design of magazine page layout including creation of various charts, infographics and tables as needed
- Collaborate regularly with magazine editorial and production staffs to conceptualize overall visual presentation of magazine stories
- Create and maintain magazine templates, style sheets, libraries & other design-critical assets
- Traffic and track status of all magazine pages through the inter-departmental magazine workflow - involves working with Editorial, Freelancers, Advertising, Photo Agencies, and Production Department
- Ensure consistency of style throughout magazine on a page-to-page and month-by-month basis
- Magazine photo editing (selecting and finding appropriate images within budgetary constraints)
- Responsible for performing and/or directing photo retouching, color correction
- Assign photo shoots/illustrations to freelance contributors on an infrequent basis
Responsibilities:
- Occasional design of company health and financial newsletters, including creation of various charts and tables as needed
- Occasional design of in-house/subsidiary print ads and marketing collateral, including logos, letterheads, envelopes, one-sheets, power point presentations
- Potential design of product packaging (Medix) and book exteriors and covers (Humanix)
- Potential design of brochures and special reports
- Potential illustration in a variety of media
- Potential in-house photography for marketing/editorial purposes
- Infrequent creation of web banner ads for all subsidiaries and marketing departments
- Perform other duties that may be assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Software mastery must be present in the following platforms/applications: MAC OS, Adobe Creative Suite (with particular emphasis on In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator), Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Popular web browser.
- Software competence must be present in the following applications: MS Office (particular emphasis on MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), In Copy (an In Design plug-in that allows multiple users to simultaneously access text files within In Design documents)
- A bachelor's degree in graphics design or related field is strongly preferred
- 4-5 years of experience in print/publication design is strongly preferred
- High attention to detail and the ability to audit own work for accuracy and quality
- The proven ability to work independently, be self-motivated and results-oriented but still be an excellent team member capable of collaboration and taking direction.
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial, high-energy environment that requires the ability to multi-task and implement high priority initiatives
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, planning, project management and time-management skills with individuals at both peer and management levels
