Job Title: Graduate Lab Coordinator

Department: Graduate Research Lab

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Manager, Graduate Lab

Grade: 4

Union: N/A

Range: $20.22 - $24.73

General purpose: Oversee the daily operation of the Graduate Research Lab's Print Lab, Computer Lab, and Checkout Desk. Position requires a 35-hour per week commitment with potential evening and weekend availability.

Summary of Essential Functions: Reporting to the Grad Lab Manager, this position is a key customer-service and operational role serving MICA's graduate students and programs. The Grad Lab is vital to the student experience, and it is crucial that it functions smoothly and efficiently. The Grad Lab Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for the Print Lab, Main Lab, Resource Rooms, and Checkout Desk, ensuring proper operation of all equipment. They will coordinate and manage Print Lab and Checkout Desk staff, and work closely with the Graduate Research Lab Manager to ensure the lab's current and future viability.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and ensure proper operation of the Graduate Research Labs Checkout Desk, Print Lab, Computer Lab, Resource Rooms, and all associated AV and Computing equipment.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Print Lab, Resource Rooms, and Checkout Desk.
  • Manage part-time and student workers, including hiring assistance.
  • Communicate proactively, manage, and plan to ensure full capacity operation of the Grad Lab.
  • Maintain equipment inventory.
  • Manage and ensure proper operation of the online equipment checkout system.
  • On-board new checkout equipment.
  • Coordinate/perform repair or replacement of damaged/outdated equipment.
  • Purchase consumables.
  • Assist in coordinating annual workshop series.
  • Keep usage metrics.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for students using the facilities.
  • Coordinate with the Lab Manager to provide adaptive and innovative technical resources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Digital and Electronic Arts, Information Technology, or comparable experience.
  • Proficiency with Mac and PC platforms.
  • Experience with hardware and software for Video, Audio, 3D Animation, VR, AR, Electronics Hacking, Scripting, Programming, and Interactive Media Projects.
  • Experience with large-format inkjet printers and color management systems.
  • Foundational AV equipment knowledge.
  • Excellent customer service and partnership skills.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and peak activity times.
  • Quick problem-solving skills.
  • Resourcefulness and ability to perform complex tasks.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor and work with diverse populations.
  • Understanding of technology's role in teaching and art-making.

Valued but not required qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Digital and Electronic Arts and/or Information Technology or related field.
  • Basic IT certifications such as Apple Certified Mac Technician (ACMT), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), ITIL Foundations, etc.
  • Experience repairing computers and AV equipment.
  • Proficiency with Webcheckout.

Reporting to this position: Multiple positions including PTEs and PTSEs.
