The Governmental Affairs Manager will oversee the following program areas: Government Affairs; Sustainability; Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness; and Media and Communications for the Department of Utilities (DOU) citywide. This position will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing activities of the DOU which includes working with governmental agencies and legislative bodies to protect the Departments' interests in Water, Wastewater, and Storm Drainage laws and legislation. This includes but is not limited to creating policies and programs to ensure compliance with legislation, planning and implementing strategies to promote DOU's point of view with legislators and regulators, and coordinating and planning initiatives or programs with public officials to help establish policy and/or laws. Additionally, the Government Affairs Manager will be responsible for representing the city and department at the highest levels of engagement with elected officials and staff of federal, state, and local governments.

Incumbents are responsible for the oversight of departmental government affairs activities and manage two or more operational sections within a department. The Governmental Affairs Manager is distinguished from the Senior Governmental Affairs Manager in that the latter exercises executive direction over governmental affairs activities with citywide impact.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDDirect supervision is provided by higher-level personnel.
