Our tantalum operations are vertically integrated from the mining and processing of ore into concentrates, through to the manufacture of capacitor powders and metallurgical products. Tantalum is a strategically important mineral with about half the world's supply used in electronic products such as tablets, smart phones, digital cameras and electronic systems for vehicles. Tantalum is also an additive in nickel-based super-alloys used to make turbine blades for the aerospace industry and land-based gas turbines. Other uses for tantalum include sputtering targets, mill products, cutting tools, surgical implants and specialty chemicals and coatings.

Position Summary:

The Global Purchasing Manager will optimize value through strategic sourcing, cost reduction, innovation, avoidance of supply disruption, risk mitigation and growth throughout supplier relationship life cycle.In addition, this role will implement productivity and service improvement initiatives across the spend. This position includes a matrix responsibility for managing the purchasing staff in Japan.

This role is primarily responsible for managing the Indirect category strategy. The position will define sourcing activities, value analysis, negotiations, supplier qualifications, and quality of all procured materials and services as assigned by the Global Supply Chain Director, with a strong focus on MRO and CAPEX goods and services. The Global Purchasing Manager will also be responsible for the management of a MRO stockroom containing 6,000+ parts and will have one direct report.

This is a very hands-on yet strategic position that will require strong industry knowledge, excellent people and procurement skills, and an ability to improve processes on a continuous basis.

Essential Functions

  • Be the strategic sourcing expert and transaction specialist for GAM to drive savings opportunities and effectively manage suppliers to maintain the highest standards for quality and delivery.
  • Manages procurement process from requisition to payment Leads evaluation, selection and qualification of new suppliers.
  • Works with internal customers to identify, understand and translate purchasing needs.
  • Ensure continuous supply of assigned goods and services to meet manufacturing and customer deadlines.
  • Conducts competitive bids; secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers while complying with procurement procedures.
  • Negotiates and administers commercial contracts.Liaises with legal counsel to ensure contracts comply with Company's legal standards and requirements.
  • Follows market trends, industry standards, and supplier economics to ensure maintenance of competitiveness.
  • Utilizes contracts, procurement best practices, spend analysis and supplier management techniques to manage cost and risk.
  • Maintains various supplier and MRO master data information within an Oracle ERP system.
  • Maintains approved contractor list in compliance with OSHA VPP contractor safety policy.
  • Resolves commercial conflicts and initiates corrective action when expectations are not met.
  • Administers Procurement card process in compliance with policy.
  • Adheres to all intellectual property standards; safety, health and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures and encourages/requires other personnel to do the same as appropriate.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Proficient with contract language terms and conditions as well as contract design.
  • Indirect spend/Capital equipment category management knowledge and expertise.
  • Specialist knowledge of procurement concepts, processes, activities, and trends
  • Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity and resolve conflicts that arise from balancing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize own activities.Timely follow-through to meet deadlines is essential.
  • Strong understanding of business and financial principles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain or related field
  • Minimum 8 - 15 years related procurement experience with 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a management role. Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Certifications: Institute for Supply Management CPSM or C.P.M certification preferred.
  • Experience working in ERP applications required. Oracle experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites
