GIS Technician - City of Goldsboro : Job Details

Hiring range is negotiable between $49,194 and $63,942 depending on a candidate's qualifications and experience.

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze and maintain geographic data in support of the engineering and planning functions of the departments. Successful performance helps ensure that infrastructure data is accurate and facilities efficiency of division operations. The work consists of varied technical GIS duties. The need to complete multiple tasks at the same time and to use old and illegible plans and maps contribute to the complexity of the position.

• Manage and maintain the citys GIS data in the ESRI ArcGIS Utility Network. This includes data for water, sewer, and stormwater utilities.
• Assist planning activities by providing relevant GIS data and maps. This includes data for land use planning, zoning, transportation planning, and others.
• Edit, maintain, and research facilities and reference data.
• Assist supervisor with facility design and studies.
• Review as-built accuracy.
• Maintain system files and tile books.
• Communicate with field crews, contractors, supervisors, and engineers.
• Perform customer service duties.
• Assist in the creation and maintenance of databases.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of geographic information principles and practices.

• Skill in knowledge of ESRI software
• Interpreting maps, plans, and engineering drawings.

• Associates degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
• One year of GIS or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

• Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. This position performs sedentary work that may involve walking or standing and requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
