Summary The GIS Specialist is responsible for creating visual graphics that support planning and reporting documents; a primary role of the GIS Specialist is to serve as a point of contact for all GIS and graphic-related activities. The GIS Specialist develops methods for data collection and display, identifies resources, establishes project objectives, and develops standards for GIS deployment and use. The GIS Specialist may supervise GIS Technicians engaged in performing a variety of routine to moderately difficult technical duties in maintaining and supporting the company's GIS databases and geographic information systems. The pay rate for this position is $35.00-$45.00/hour. This position will be posted for 5 days or until filled. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Exercises initiative, resourcefulness, and independent judgment in the direction and establishment of technology solutions for the company
  • Create baseline maps and other data layers as requested by project staff
  • Production of maps and cartographic products that are clear and understandable
  • Database loading and data conversion
  • Assist in the production of database analysis and technical reports
  • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting to end users of the system
  • Review and convert content to the appropriate file format for upload
  • Collect current information from project stakeholders
  • Maintains administrative and technical productivity through supervisory and independent responsibility, exercises judgment, and makes technical decisions
  • Oversees maintenance of organized files for maps, computer reports, field surveys, and other data
  • Providing an interface between GIS staff and consulting professionals working within the organization
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS (Geomatics) related field
    • Associate's Degree in a GIS-related field and years of relevant working experience, as outlined below, can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree
  • Current driver's license with a clean driving record, and ability to be covered by company insurance
  • One (1) year of relevant working experience
    • Specialized training and/or an advanced degree, such as an MS, may be substituted for work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • GIS Certificate/Degree (Geomatics)
  • Experience working in ArcGIS Pro
  • Experience working on projects with Federal clients
  • Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures

Working Environment:
  • May be indoors or outdoors, subject to confined spaces, changes in temperature, weather conditions, and noise levels.
