The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the game, a strong coaching background, and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. The Head Coach will design and implement a competitive tennis program in alignment with Bellarmine's mission and values.Core Functions And Duties
- Understand the Jesuit Values:
- Familiarize yourself with the Jesuit educational philosophy and values, such as cura personalis (care for the whole person), magis (the pursuit of excellence), and service to others.
- Integrate these values into your coaching style and interactions with the players.
- Build a Positive Team Culture:
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that aligns with the school's values.
- Emphasize teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship both on and off the court.
- Balancing Academics and Athletics:
- Recognize the academic commitments of the students and work collaboratively with them to balance their studies and tennis responsibilities.
- Encourage a culture of academic excellence among the players.
- Effective Communication:
- Communicate clearly and effectively with both players and parents. Transparency is key in building trust and support.
- Keep open lines of communication with school administrators, teachers, and staff to ensure a coordinated approach to student development.
- Skill Development and Training:
- Implement a well-structured and progressive training program that focuses on skill development, tactical understanding, and physical fitness.
- Provide feedback to players to help them improve and grow as both individuals and athletes.
- Spiritual and Personal Development:
- Acknowledge and support the spiritual and personal growth of your players.
- Consider incorporating team-building activities, community service projects, or reflective exercises that align with the Jesuit values.
- Keep up with the latest coaching techniques, strategies, and advancements in the sport.
- Be open to feedback and continuously look for ways to improve both yourself and the team.
- Lead by Example:
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and ethical behavior both on and off the court.
- Model the values you want to instill in your players.
- Collaborate with Other Coaches:
- Work collaboratively with coaches from other sports within the school to create a holistic approach to student-athlete development.
- Collaborates with assistant coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff to ensure the overall success and well-being of student-athletes.
- Emphasize Sportsmanship:
- Instill a strong sense of sportsmanship and fair play within the team.
- Address any unsportsmanlike conduct promptly and use it as an opportunity for growth and learning.
- Compliance Oversight:
- Ensuring compliance with all school, league, and governing body rules and regulations.
Qualifications/Competencies
- Requirements:
- Successful high school coaching experience preferred with strong leadership
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification
- Background check
- A comprehensive understanding of tennis, including current trends, strategies, and player development techniques
- Understanding of coaching theory and practice
- Ability to build relationships with players, families, and colleagues
- The ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to achieve their full potential
- Commitment to working with a diverse student body
- Excellent communication skills and a commitment to collaboration

- Stipend: $5250
