The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. He/She provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The Endoscopy RN develops specialized skills in caring for patients admitted with specific medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with various medical conditions. The RN is responsible for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization. This includes lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The Endoscopy Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment. The nurse assesses patient and family needs through active listening and social perceptiveness. He/She analyzes data obtained through observations, assessments, technology, or healthcare team communication. The RN creates an individualized plan of care that is developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and addresses the identified health problems. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, the RN sets goals and monitors patient progress. He/She adjusts the plan based on patient response or changes in conditions. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. He/She encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. He/She understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. The RN motivates patients and families by teaching them necessary information for continued care and healing at home.
