Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a General Superintendent/Assistant Resident Engineer with 5 or more years of experience to join our construction management team working on projects within the NYC Metropolitan Area. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team locally, supported by a highly qualified municipal consulting firm. You will utilize your experience in construction management, municipal infrastructure, building systems including MEP, site development, and general civil/structural work to assist the Arcadis team in overseeing the construction of a new boiler building at a NYCHA development in Brooklyn, NY. You will work under the supervision of the Assistant Project Manager/Resident Engineer.

Role accountabilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with managing the firm's daily construction management services, including resident engineering, inspection, and oversight of the general contractor's performance and progress.
  • Manage and mentor inspection staff, monitor contractor work, performance, quality, schedule, and safety, and ensure timely delivery of inspection reports.
  • Review and manage sub-consultants' invoices for accuracy.
  • Support management and mentoring of field office staff responsible for record keeping, correspondence, meetings, reporting, and other deliverables.
  • Engage proactively with the contractor's planning and execution to resolve issues.
  • Review the contractor's CPM schedule, updates, and related documentation; provide analysis and comments.
  • Assist with change order processes, including preparation, estimation, and negotiation.
  • Coordinate with design staff on RFIs, shop drawings, and issue resolution.
  • Communicate with Program Management, NYCHA Asset and Capital Management, and other stakeholders to resolve project issues.
  • Review construction plans and specifications for constructability.
  • Oversee contractor efforts related to site safety, permit compliance, and coordination with agencies.
  • Monitor contractor performance and responsiveness.
  • Influence contractor to meet project goals regarding cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Assist with contractor payments and adjustments.
  • Lead contract and project meetings using effective communication skills.

    Qualifications & Experience:Required:
    • At least 5 years of experience, including 2 years as a General Superintendent/Assistant Resident Engineer for NYC public agencies.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction, or related field.
    • Proficiency with construction software like eBuilder and MS Office Suite.
    Preferred:
    • NY Professional Engineer License.
    • CCM certification.
